This illustration depicts Bonnie Prince Charlie and 12 companions from the story "The Faithful Steersman" and was created for the Clan Macleod Magazine. The magazine has a very niche readership of 3K +, but is distributed worldwide as well as being available online.
I decided to do a modern interpretation of the scene, with a highly detailed sea, boat and men, and a silhouetted mountain range in the background. I added swirls to the sea and sky to give a bit of texture. The illustration was drawn by hand, before being digitally re-drawn and coloured.
